BOSTON, Mass. - Mateja Bosić recorded 11 points across two matches to lead the No. 13 San José State men’s water polo team (7-3, 1-1 WCC) in a 13-7 victory over RV Bucknell (8-9, 5-3 MAWPC) and in a 10-8 win over the hosts No. 11 Harvard (13-3, 5-0 NWPC) on the first day of the Harvard Invitational.
Vs. RV Bucknell
- Bosić led the team with six points in the match, consisting of three goals and three assists.
- Samu Biros tallied two goals and an assist.
- Mitchell Keightley, Erik Duesund, Giancarlo Marquez and Bence Szabo all recorded two points in the match. Duesund also recorded three steals to lead the team.
- Mattin Sarhaddi, Jamie Steingraf and Austin Hexter all scored a goal in the game.
- Zach Ramans also earned a point with an assist in the match.
- In net, Brendon Gyapjas tallied eight saves in three quarters of action.
Vs. No. 11 Harvard
- Bosić once again led the Spartans with five total points consisting of two goals and three assists.
- Louis Fehrensen scored three goals in the game which led SJSU. He also had an assist.
- Biros and Connor MacMillan had two points in the match each.
- Biros also recorded three steals which led the team.
- Maro Tiozzo and Marquez also found the back of the net in the match.
- Steingraf tallied an assist.
- In net, Gyapjas recorded 16 saves.
- Gyapjas held the Crimson to eight goals, Harvard's lowest offensive output of the season.
Up Next: The Spartans will play another doubleheader tomorrow, Oct. 20, for the second day of the Harvard Invitational. SJSU will play No. 19 Brown at 7:30 a.m. before facing off against No. 20 Navy at 11 a.m. Both matches will be held in Providence, R.I.
