LAS VEGAS – San José State's Cheuk Ying Shek started strong on the first day of the Mountain West Fall Qualifier, winning both her doubles and two singles matches as she heads to the quarterfinals.
- In her first singles match, Ying Shek defeated her opponent Maria Sodre from New Mexico, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, advancing her to the round of 16
- In the round of 16, she went on to play against Sarah Weekley from Colorado State winning 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)
- Ying Shek and doubles partner Carla Urchoeguia won 8-4, against Sofia Mavor and Arianna Van Houweling from Air Force
- Urchoeguia fell short against Rebekkah Gaines from New Mexico 7-5, 7-6 (7-4)
- Duru Durgun was bested by opponent Maud Vandeputte, 4-6, 5-7
UP NEXT: Ying Shek and Urchoeguia will continue tomorrow against Matilde Magrini and Charlotte Gisclon from Fresno State in doubles. Ying Shek will go on into the quarterfinals playing against Amahee Charrier from Nevada.
