Marquez Scores Four Goals to Lead the No. 12 Spartans in Narrow Loss to No. 5 Fordham

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Giancarlo Marquez scored a season high four goals to lead the No. 12 San José State men’s water polo team (9-4, 1-1 WCC) in a narrow 15-13 loss to No. 5 Fordham (17-0, 7-0 MAWPC) at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. 

  • Marquez’s four goals were also the most on the team.
  • Samu Biros and Erik Duesund each recorded four points in the match, tying Marquez. Biros tallied two goals and two assists while Duesund notched a goal and three assists.
  • Maro Tiozzo recorded three goals in the match on six shots.
  • Bence Szabo earned three points, consisting of two goals and an assist. Szabo now has 12 goals in his last three games.
  • Louis Fehrensen and Mitchell Keightley each recorded two points in the game.
  • Mateja Bosić also recorded an assist.
  • In goal, Alexey Poletaev recorded 12 saves and two steals.
