OREM, Utah - Angel Iniguez scored twice and Diogo Baptista scored once to lead the San José State (3-4-4, 2-0-0 WAC) men's soccer team in a 3-2 comeback victory on the road against Utah Valley (5-4-2, 0-2-0 WAC). SJSU has now won two games in a row, both being conference matches.
- The last time the Spartans came back from a two goal deficit and won was in the first round of the WAC Tournament on Nov. 10, 2021 in a 4-3 victory over Utah Valley.
- With two goals and an assist in today’s match, Iniguez has now tallied six goals and two assists in the Spartans’ last three games.
- Iniguez is now up to six goals and four assists on the season and 15 goals and 15 assists for his career.
- Iniguez was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after he recorded a goal and an assist against UC Davis.
- In a 2-0 deficit, the Spartans got on the board in the 29th minute when Angel Fernandez found Iniguez just outside the box who was then able to curve it around the Wolverines’ goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the net.
- For Fernandez, the assist was his second of the season and he has now assisted in back-to-back games.
- The Spartans tied the game just minutes later in the 33rd minute when Jordi Tortell Daly passed to Iniguez who then dribbled around multiple Utah Valley defenders and shot a rocket into the upper right corner of the goal from outside of the box.
- For Tortell Daly, the assist is his second of the season.
- SJSU took the lead in the 43rd minute when Eamon Fakhri found Iniguez in midfield who then sent a through ball to Baptista, setting him up with a one on one with the goalie which Baptista buried into the back of the net.
- For Fakhri, it was his first assist of the season.
- For Baptista, it was his third goal of the season.
- In goal, Edgar Guerra tallied five saves, putting him up to 33 for the season.
