SAN JOSE, Calif. - Mateja Bosić recorded seven points across two matches to lead the No. 11 San José State men’s water polo team (5-2, 1-0 WCC) in a 16-13 victory over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (12-6, 0-0 Big West) and in a narrow 11-9 loss to No. 17 UC Davis (8-8, 0-0 Big West) at the Big West-WCC Challenge at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center.
Vs. No. 12 UC Santa Barbara
- Jamie Steingraf led the team with six points in the match, including four goals and two assists.
- Both Bosić and Erik Duesund tallied five points in the match.
- Bosić scored three goals and tallied two assists while Duesund racked up five assists.
- Duesund’s five assists are the most assists in a game for the Spartans since Bende Pardi recorded five assists against Brown on Oct. 22, 2022.
- Four Spartans, Maro Tiozzo, Giancarlo Marquez, Bence Szabo and Samu Biros, earned three points in the match.
- Mael Suchet, Connor MacMillan, Mitchell Keightley and Louis Fehrensen all earned a point in the match, as well.
- The Spartans 16 goals in the match tied a season high.
- In net, Brendon Gyapjas tallied nine saves in the match.
Vs. No. 17 UC Davis
- Biros led the team with three goals and four total points in the match.
- Keightley also recorded four points in the game made up of one goal and three assists.
- Keightley recorded six steals in the match, the most steals recorded in a game this season for the Spartans.
- Szabo, Bosić and Macmillan each tallied two points in the match while Tiozzo, Suchet and Marquez all tallied one.
- The Spartans held the Aggies to only three goals in the second half.
- In goal, Gyapjas tallied eight saves.
