Mungali and Firdaus Atop Leaderboard as Spartans in Second After Day One of Alister Mackenzie Invite

FAIRFAX, Calif. – Keshav Mungali and Zubair Firdaus currently sit tied atop the player leaderboard after each finishing at 129 (-13) after 36 holes to lead San José State men’s golf on the first day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. on Monday.

  • The Spartans as a team shot a 264 (-20) in the first round and a 267 (-17) in the second round for a total 36-hole score of 531 (-37) and currently sit in second place out of the 15 teams.
  • The Spartans team score of 531 (-37) after day one is the lowest team score through 36 holes in SJSU history. 
  • The under-par score of (-37) is the lowest round under-par in the program's history as a team.
  • Their first-round team score of 264 (-20) is the lowest single-round team score in school history. 
  • Mungali and Firdaus's scores of 63 were the third-lowest scores in SJSU program history and the lowest since Sean Yu shot a 61 in the 2019-20 season.
  • The Spartans, as a team on day one, finished in second amongst the field on Par 4s (-15) and 5s (-22), averaging 3.86 strokes on Par 4s and 4.27 strokes on Par 5s.
  • The Spartans were third amongst the field in birdies made with 49 and tied for second in eagles made with two after 36 holes.  
  • Mungali shot a first-round 63 (-8), where he shot an eagle on the first hole, and a second-round 66 (-5) to finish with a total 36-hole score of 129 (-13) and currently sits tied atop the player leaderboard with teammate Firdaus after day one. 
  • Mungali was tied for second amongst the field of players with 14 birdies on the day.
  • Mungali was second amongst the field of players after day one with a score of (-7) on par 5s.
  • Firdaus shot a first-round score of 66 (-5) and a second-round 63 (-8) to finish with a 36-hole total score of 129 (-13). Firdaus is currently tied for first place on the player leaderboard with fellow Spartan Mungali.
  • Firdaus had four consecutive birdies on the back nine to end his first round and an eagle at the 13th hole of the back nine in his second round.
  • Firdaus was second amongst the field of players after day one with a score of (-8) on par 4s.  
  • Firdaus was also tied for second amongst the field of players with 14 birdies on the day.
  • Jed Dy finished day one with a combined score of 135 (-7) after shooting a 67 (-4) in round one and a 68 (-3) in round two. Dy currently sits tied for 18th on the player leaderboard.
  • Avinash Iyer shot a first-round score of 68 (-3) and a second-round 70 (-1) to finish with a score of 138 (-4) on day one. Iyer is currently tied for 38th on the player leaderboard.
  • Ivan Barahona shot a 72 (+1) in the first round and a second-round 71 (E) to finish the day with a score of 143 (+1).
  • Andreas Diogenous, competing as an individual, shot a first-round 73 (+2) and a second-round 76 (+5) for a two-round total score of 149 (+7).
