SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football (6-4, 3-3 Mountain West) hosts No. 23 UNLV (8-2, 4-1 Mountain West), presented by Habbas Law on Friday at 7:00 p.m. on FS1 and KTRB 860 AM.
- The defending co-regular season Mountain West champions look for their fourth bowl game in the last five years and a third bowl game in a row for the first time in SJSU history.
- With a 24-13 win at Oregon State (11/9/24), the Spartans are bowl-eligible for the third season in a row for the first time since having four straight seasons with winning records from 1989-92.
- The Spartans are 12-5 in their last 17 games overall and are 9-3 in their last 12 conference games.
- At 6-4, the Spartans have the best record out of every California FBS school and are the only California school to clinch bowl eligibility so far.
- The Spartans have seven home games for the first time since 2006 and are 14-3 in their last 17 games at CEFCU Stadium and 20-6 at CEFCU Stadium since 2020.
- The Spartans end the regular season with three straight home games for the first time since 1979.
- This is the first time ever the Spartans have hosted ranked teams on back-to-back weeks. The Spartans have played ranked teams back-to-back seven teams and as recently as last season at No. 6 USC and home against No. 18 Oregon State.
- SJSU has forced 23 turnovers this season, which is good for fourth in the nation and first in the MW. The Spartans' 16 interceptions are good for second in the nation and first in the Mountain West.
- According to Stats Perform, Nick Nash has a receiving touchdown in 10 consecutive games, the longest active streak in FBS and an SJSU record. It’s the longest streak to start a season in MW history.
- Nash has more touchdown receptions (14) than 47 FBS schools have thrown this season.
- Also, according to Stats Perform, Nash has nine games this season, recording at least 90 yards, the most by any FBS player. Nash has at least seven receptions in eight games this season, with 90 or more receiving yards. The last MW player to have more games with 90+ receiving yards and 7+ catches in a single season than Nash was Colorado State’s Rashard Higgins in 2014 (nine).
- This season, Nash leads all FBS players outright in receptions (95), receptions per game (9.5), receiving touchdowns (14), receiving yards (1,282) and receiving yards per game (128.2). Nash is the third FBS player since 1996 to have 50+ receptions and 8+ touchdown receptions through the team's first four games of the season (Texas Tech's Michael Crabtree in 2007 and Louisiana Tech's Troy Edwards in 1998).
- Nash is the new SJSU single-season record holder with 95 receptions. Noel Grigsby had 89 in 2011 and is now second in SJSU history. Zay Jones has the FBS single-season record of 158 in 2016 for ECU.
- Nash is second in SJSU history with 23 receiving touchdowns and has only been a true wide receiver for 24 games. He is six away from the record by Chandler Jones from 2010-13 and his 14 touchdowns are one away from the SJSU single-season record of 15 by Jones in 2013.
- According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Nash leads the country as a slot receiver in catches (83), yards (1,146), receiving touchdowns (14), catches for first downs (55), contested catches (16) and catches gaining 15 yards or more (32).
- The Spartans have the best passing offense in the Mountain West and are fourth in the country with 3,437 yards, which is 343.7 yards per game. The SJSU single-season record is 4,325 yards set in 2012.
- Only two games this season the Spartans haven't hit 320 or more yards passing.
- The Spartans' most passing yards in a game last year was 325 and the most this season is 446 yards (No. 13 Boise St., 11/16/24).
- SJSU has the best receiving duo in the country with Nash and Justin Lockhart. The two have a combined 2,207 yards this season. Nash leads the country in five receiving categories, while Lockhart is 13th in receiving yards with 925.
- Prior to the win over Oregon St. (11/9/24), the Spartans last win over a Pac-12 school was against Stanford on Sept. 9, 2006 and it also snapped an 18 game losing streak for the Spartans against Pac-12 schools.
- It was also the first win over Oregon St. for the Spartans since beating the Beavers on Sept. 25, 1982.
- The Spartans have allowed 10 sacks this season which is good for fourth in the MW and 11th in the country.
- The Spartans' last win over a ranked team was last season against No. 25 Fresno State in a 42-18 home victory (11/11/23).
- Walker Eget threw for 446 yards against No. 13 Boise State (11/16/24), which is a new career-high and it's the most passing yards for an SJSU quarterback since Nick Starkel threw for 453 yards against Boise State in the Mountain West Championship game on Dec. 19, 2020.
- Eget started for the first time in his career against Wyoming (10/19/24) and went 20-for-38 with 318 yards and his first career touchdown.
- SJSU had a season-high 498 yards of offense against Wyoming (10/19/24). This was the most since the Spartans had 531 yards of total offense at New Mexico on Oct. 14, 2023.
- The Spartans have scored a touchdown on their opening drive in seven of their 10 games this season.
- Floyd Chalk IV scored his ninth rushing touchdown of the season at Oregon St. (11/9/24), and he has had a rushing touchdown in six games this season.
- DJ Harvey had his first career pick-six of 16 yards, plus a career-high 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack, a pass breakup and seven tackles against Oregon State (11/9/24) on the way to his first Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors (11/11/24).
- Harvey had an 85-yard fumble return for his first career touchdown, his first ever fumble recovery, his first career sack, plus his second career interception with seven tackles and 1.0 tackles for loss against Colorado St. (10/12/24).
- Harvey is the 24th-ranked cornerback in the country, according to PFF, with an 83.5 grade.
- Rocket Rahimi picked off his fourth pass of the season at Fresno State (10/26/24) and is second in the Mountain West and fifth in the nation.
- The Spartans have 68 tackles for loss which is good for third in the Mountain West and 24th in the nation.
- The Spartans have three Friday games this season which is the most for the Spartans since 2013, ironically they also ended the regular season with Friday home games on Nov. 22 and Nov. 29. On 11/22/13 the Spartans hosted Ken Niumatalolo and Navy at CEFCU Stadium.
- SJSU is the only school in the Mountain West Conference that played both Oregon State and Washington State on the road. Boise State is playing both, but at home.
- Against No. 13 Boise State, the Spartans drew 20,517 fans, which was the most since Nov. 29, 2013, and it's the 22nd-highest attended game in SJSU history.
- It's the second season in a row the Spartans have had a sellout game (9/3/23 vs. No. 18 Oregon State).
