SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Darcy Spark and Bridget Cranley led the No. 19 San José State women’s water polo team in scoring Saturday as the Spartans went 2-0 at the Bronco Invitational and extended their winning streak to five matches.
- The Spartans won their first match of the day, 9-8, over the No. 25 Brown Bears.
- Spark scored five goals in the win including the eventual match-winner with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
- Sarah Woren added two goals, while Nynke Willemsen and Rose Jensen each scored once.
- Goalie Grace Smith made nine saves in the match and added an assist.
- Jennine Osorio recorded three assists and grabbed two steals.
- Bridget Cranley also had two steals and drew two exclusions.
- The Spartans continued their winning way with a 12-7 win over No. 20 Pacific.
- Cranley scored a team-high four goals and grabbed two steals in the victory.
- Osorio added three goals and an assist, while Spark scored twice and drew two exclusions.
- Willemsen, Woren and Mackenzy Clark each scored once.
- Renee Fleming dished out three assists and had a steal.
- Smith made six saves in the win.
- The Spartans were tied 5-5 with the Tigers at halftime before SJSU’s defense held UOP scoreless in the third quarter.
- SJSU outscored Pacific, 7-2, in the second half.
UP NEXT – The Spartans finish play at the Bronco Invitational on Sunday with a match against No. 23 Marist at 9 a.m.
