Spartans to Visit Utah State on Mountain West Network

SAN JOSE, Calif. -  San José State men’s basketball (12-15, 5-10 MW) will take on Utah State (22-4, 12-3 MW) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. PT on Mountain West Network and KTRB 860 AM in Logan, Utah.

2024-25 SCHEDULE 

  • The Spartans are coming off a 73-58 loss at home to Nevada.
  • The Spartans fell to Utah State 85-78 earlier this season at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Donavan Yap scored 22 points and hit six threes and Latrell Davis scored 20 points off the bench in the game.
  • The Spartans have not defeated Utah State on the road since Feb. 25, 1982.
  • 12 out of 15 of the Spartans' conference games have been decided by 11 points or less.
  • The Spartans' 9.00 threes per game in conference play is second in theMountain West. SJSU is also second in the Mountain West in 3pt. percentage in conference play, shooting .370.
  • The Spartans are holding opponents to .318 percent from beyond the arc in conference play which is second lowest in the conference.
  • The Spartans are averaging the second fewest turnovers per game in the Mountain West (10.96).
  • The Spartans are the only Mountain West team to defeat New Mexico this season. 
  • The Spartans' 94 points against Fresno State (2/4/25) was the most points they have scored in a conference game since joining the Mountain West in 2013.
  • Davis and Josh Uduje each scored 30 points against Fresno State (2/4/25), marking the first time in school history they had two 30 point scorers in a game.
  • Davis and Uduje are joined by New Mexico's Donovan Dent and Utah State's Ian Martinez as the only players to score 30+ points in a conference game this season.
  • The Spartans scored 100 points in back-to-back games for the first time in school history (107 vs. Cal Poly & 117 vs. Lincoln).
  • The Spartans are averaging 3.47 blocks per game in conference play which ranks third in the conference.
  • SJSU is third in the Mountain West in free throw percentage (.742). Four Spartans, Yap, Will McClendon, Sadaidriene Hall and Uduje, are shooting over 80 percent from the foul line.
  • The Spartans hit a season-high 15 threes at San Diego State (1/28/25).  They also knocked down 14 threes vs. No. 25 Utah State (1/7/25) and at Fresno State (2/4/25).
  • The Spartans are 10-1 on the season when they shoot better than their opponent and 9-2 when they out rebound their opponent.
  • The Spartans recorded 10 blocks at home vs. Air Force (2/1/25), setting a new Provident Credit Union Event Center all-time record. The Spartans’ 10 blocks was also the most recorded by any team in the Mountain West in a conference game this season.
  • The reigning Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year, Uduje, currently leads the Spartans with 16.4 points per game which is also good for sixth in the Mountain West.
  • Uduje has scored 20+ 11 times this year which is tied for the second most in the Mountain West. He has also recorded double-digit points in 20 out of 25 games played this season. 
  • Uduje became the first Spartan to score 20+ in five consecutive games since Adrian Oliver in 2011. 
  • Uduje is fifth in the conference in field goal percentage at .505 (153-303 & min. 5 FGM/G average). 
  • Davis is the Spartans' leading scorer off the bench, averaging 11.7 points per game. Davis' 11.7 points per game is the highest in the Mountain West among players who play predominantly off the bench.
  • Davis is averaging 13.7 points per game in conference play which ranks 13th in the Mountain West. Davis' 2.2 threes per game in conference play is fourth in the Mountain West.
  • Davis’ 30 points, 11 made field goals and six made threes against Fresno State were all career-highs (2/4/25). Davis scored 17 of his 30 points in overtime without missing a shot.
  • Davis has scored in double-figures in each of his last nine games. He is averaging 18.7 points per game and 3.22 threes per game in that span.
  • Also over his last nine games, Davis is shooting .584 from the field and .518 from three.
  • McClendon is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points per game. He has scored double-figures in 17 out of 24 games played this season.
  • McClendon leads the Spartans with 45 made threes on the season. His 1.88 threes per game is good for eighth in the Mountain West. In conference play, McClendon is averaging 2.08 threes per game which is the sixth most in the Mountain West.
  • Robert Vaihola leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 boards per game which is also good for fourth in the conference. Vaihola's 2.5 offensive rebounds per game also ranks third in the Mountain West.
  • Vaihola recorded a career-high seven blocks against Air Force (2/1/25). Seven blocks in a game is the most recorded by any player in the Mountain West this season.
  • Vaihola's average of 1.67 blocks per game in conference play is second in the Mountain West.
  • Hall leads the Spartans in steals with 29 recorded on the season.
  • Hall recorded a career-high 33 points and 14 made field goals in the Spartans' overtime win vs. Cal Poly (12/14/24). He also notched 11 rebounds, giving him his first double-double of the year.
  • The Spartans’ have recorded nine double-doubles on the season (two by Vaihola, two by Hall, two by Sadraque NgaNga, two by Uduje and one by McClendon).
  • Yap scored a season-high 22 points and made a career-high six threes against No. 25 Utah State (1/7/25). Yap and Davis are two of the four players in the Mountain West to hit six or more threes in a conference game this season.
  • NgaNga recorded 11 points and 11 rebounds vs. UNLV (1/4/25), earning his second double-double of the season despite only playing 18 minutes in the game.
