DAVIS, Calif. – Aneesa Almaguer hit the first home run of her career while Reina Zermeno had two hits including an RBI to lead San José State softball (0-1, 0-0 MW) in an 11-8 loss against Idaho State (2-0, 0-0 Big West) in their first game of the round-robin style Norcal Kickoff tournament hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State on Friday afternoon from La Rue Field.
The Spartan bats came out hot, putting up six runs in the first three innings of this game before Idaho State came back with a big inning to tie it and take the lead for the remainder of the contest.
- Eight runs is the highest run total for a season opener in the Tammy Lohmann era and the highest since the Spartans scored 16 runs against South Dakota in 2018.
- Almaguer hit her first career home run going 1-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
- Alamguer’s home run is her first of the season and first of her career.
- Zermeno led the team with two hits and reached base three times in a 2-for-3 day with a triple, a single, a walk, one RBI, and one run scored.
