SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Shay McDowell led the team at the plate for the second consecutive day, tallying three hits to lead San José State softball (0-5, 0-0 MW) in a 7-1 game one loss against Utah Valley (2-3, 0-0 WAC) and an 8-0 five inning loss against Sacramento State (3-1, 0-0 Big Sky) in game two on the final day of the round-robin style Norcal Kickoff tournament hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State on Sunday from Shea Stadium.
Game One vs. Utah Valley
- McDowell finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI
- McDowell’s double is the third of her career.
- Haley Reeve had a 1-for-2 day with a single and a walk
- Ahmiya Noriega went 1-for-2 with a single and a stolen base
- Noriega swiped three bags last season.
- Jules Ronquillo went 1-for-2 with a single
- Ronquillo had a season-high three putouts in right field
- Reina Zermeno drew two walks and scored one run.
- Lacie Ham got the start in the circle, going 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Game Two vs. Sacramento State
- McDowell went 1-for-2 with a single
- McDowell now has seven hits through five games so far this season.
- McDowell leads the team in hits and RBIs after the season’s first weekend.
- Mia Reynolds got the start in the circle going 4.0 innings with four strikeouts, five hits and one earned run.
- Bella Rodriguez made her second relief appearance of the weekend and the second of her career.
