SAN JOSE, Calif. – Josh Uduje scored 18 points and Donavan Yap scored 16 to lead the San José State Men’s Basketball team (15-20, 7-13 MW) in a 73-70 loss to Loyola Chicago (23-11,12-6 A-10) in the first round of the NIT at the Provident Credit Union Event Center on Wednesday night.
- The game marked the first time the Spartans played in the NIT since 1981. It was also the second postseason appearance for the Spartans over the last three seasons.
- The Spartans trailed by 12 points with 4:45 left in the second half, but went on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to one point.
- The Spartans had a chance to tie in the final seconds needing a three, but were unsuccessful.
- The Spartans did not allow Ramblers to make a field goal in the final 4:45 of the game.
- Uduje scored in double figures in 27 out of 33 games played on the season.
- Uduje also recorded five rebounds, two assists and two steals and went 8-for-8 from the line.
- Yap tallied three steals in the game, all of which came in the second half.
- Sadaidriene Hall tallied 14 points and six rebounds in the game.
- Latrell Davis posted 11 points.
- Robert Vaihola recorded five points, nine rebounds and three assists.
- The Spartans won the turnover battle 15-8.
