SAN JOSE, Calif. – Luca Staiano pitched five hitless innings to lead the San José State baseball team (16-9, 4-2 MW) in a 8-4 victory over Pacific (10-16, 0-3 WCC) at Excite Ballpark on Tuesday night in a lone midweek matchup.
San Jose State took control early, scoring twice in the second inning and adding three more in the third. Jeriah Lewis led the way with a solo home run, while Alex Fernandes also went deep, helping the Spartans build a commanding lead. Jake McCoy contributed a two-run double in the sixth inning to further extend the advantage.
On the mound, Staiano (2-1) received the win in his third start of the season. Tyler Albanese struck out three batters in the final frame to secure the Spartan victory. Cade Cushing, Timmy Reeve and Brady Pavlovsky all also made appearances.
- Lewis went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run and hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season.
- Fernandes went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. He also hit his first home run of the season.
- McCoy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. This marked his seventh game of the season where he notched multiple RBIs.
- Rocco Caballero and Jake Maroney each tallied two hits.
- Drew Giannini posted two RBIs.
