Four Spartans Have Secured Spots on UFL Rosters to Open 2025 Season

ARLINGTON, Texas - San José State football alumni Chevan Cordeiro, Frank Ginda, Boogie Roberts, and Nehemiah Shelton have all made United Football League (UFL) rosters to open the 2025 season. Cordeiro is with the St. Louis Battlehawks, Ginda is with the Michigan Panthers, and Roberts and Shelton are with the Memphis Showboats.

The season kicks off on March 28th with the Battlehawks at the Houston Roughnecks at 5:00 p.m. (PT) on FOX.

St. Louis Battlehawks

Chevan Cordeiro, QB, Honolulu, Hawai‘i/Saint Louis HS

  • Selected as the Battlehawks' first-round pick (5th overall) in the 2024 UFL College Draft
  • All-Mountain West First Team and Mountain West Preseason Offensive Player of the Year (2023)
  • Threw for 2,773 yards with 20 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 2023
  • Cordeiro is the Mountain West all-time leader with 113 touchdowns responsible for, in yardage gained with 13,811 yards and completions with 971

Michigan Panthers

Frank Ginda, LB, Los Banos, Calif./Pacheco HS

  • 38 games played at SJSU with 35 starts
  • No. 9 on the San José State career list for tackles with 352
  • Had 29.0 tackles for loss during his SJSU career
  • Set a Mountain West single-season record with 173 total tackles (2017)

Memphis Showboats

Boogie Roberts, DL, Los Angeles, Calif./Narbonne HS

  • 47 games played with 36 starts at SJSU
  • Had a streak of 20 consecutive starts covering the 2016 and 2017 seasons\
  • Honorable mention All-Mountain West selection in 2018
  • Had 146 career tackles at SJSU with 24 tackles for loss and six sacks plus two fumble recoveries

Nehemiah Shelton, CB, Gardena, Calif./Serra HS

  • Has had multiple stints with the Showboats and NFL teams, including the New York Jets and Los Angeles Chargers, before rejoining Memphis in January 2025
  • All-Mountain West Honorable Mention Selection (2021, 22)
  • Finished his career at SJSU with 195 tackles, eight interceptions, 32 pass deflections, and 3.5 tackles for loss in 45 games
  • Led the team with eight pass deflections and finished tied for the team lead in interceptions with two in 2022
