Spartans Drop Midweek Matchup to Saint Mary’s

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Zach Tallerman recorded his first home run of the season to lead the San José State baseball team (20-17, 8-7 MW) in a 13-5 loss to Saint Mary’s (16-19, 2-7 WCC) at Excite Ballpark on Tuesday night in a lone midweek matchup. 

The Gaels struck early with a run in the first and continued to build momentum, including a four-run fifth and a decisive five-run eighth. San José State rallied with three runs in the fifth and added one in the seventh, but couldn't close the gap down the stretch.

Saint Mary's capitalized on 11 walks and three SJSU errors, scoring 13 runs on eight hits. The Spartans recorded eight hits of their own but stranded 11 baserunners.

Starter Cade Cushing went 4.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits. The bullpen saw seven pitchers take the mound, with Brady Pavlovsky finishing the game with 1.1 scoreless innings.
