LAS VEGAS – Aubrie Thomas hit her fifth home run of the season in a second consecutive multi-hit game while Lacie Ham rang up six strikeouts in a strong six plus inning performance to lead San José State softball (19-23, 6-10 MW) in a close 4-3 win over UNLV (20–23, 3-13 MW) in game two of this two-game series from Eller Media Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Center fielder Thomas delivered the spark the Spartans needed, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Her solo blast in the second inning opened the scoring and set the tone for the Spartans’ offense.
After trading runs, the Spartans broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth. A combination of heads-up baserunning, a key single by Kaylani Lim, and pressure-inducing play allowed San José State to plate two unearned runs, capitalizing on defensive miscues by the Rebels.
In the circle, Ham battled through 6.2 innings, scattering seven hits while striking out six and walking just one. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and a runner on, Mia Reynolds entered in relief and notched her fourth save of the season, securing the Spartans’ 19th win.
Defensively, the Spartans played clean softball, committing no errors.
