Spartans Win Twice To Advance in Southland Championship

NEW ORLEANS—Jada Hall and Randi Reeves again found themselves in a must-win situation on Thursday as the third-seeded San José State beach volleyball team defeated seventh-seeded McNeese State, 3-2, and fifth-seeded Houston Christian, 3-2, to advance to Friday’s action in the Southland Conference Championship in New Orleans.

  • The Spartans started the day with the 3-2 win over McNeese State.
  • Sabrina Moore and Kiara Edwards got the Spartans on the board with a 21-13, 22-20 win.
  • Addison DeMarse and Elon Milroy, who played together for the fourth and fifth times this season, won 21-17, 21-23, 15-9.
  • At the same time, Hall and Reeves also needed three sets for the win, 16-21, 21-18, 15-9, as the two pairs helped the Spartans advance.
  • San José State immediately faced the Huskies in the second elimination dual.
  • Kylee Moore and Anna Salmon got the first Spartan point on the board with a 21-19, 21-15 win.
  • Down 2-1 to HCU, DeMarse and Milroy needed three sets for their win, 21-17, 21-23, 15-9, to tie the dual at 2-2.
  • Hall and Reeves also went to a third set to clinch the victory for SJSU, 21-16, 18-21, 15-9.

UP NEXT – The Spartans will play Stephen F. Austin Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT/7 a.m. PT in the team’s third elimination match of the championship. The dual winner will play Boise State at 11:15 a.m. CT/9:15 a.m. PT. That winner will then face Texas A&M–Corpus Christi in the championship dual for the honor to be called champion and to earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.
