SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – JC Osorio-Agard hit a home run, his third in the last two games, to lead the San José State baseball team (18-15, 6-6 MW) in a 8-5 loss to Cal Poly (23-8, 12-0 Big West) at Baggett Stadium on Tuesday afternoon in a lone midweek matchup.

Cal Poly struck early with two runs in the first and added insurance in the middle innings, taking a 6-2 advantage after the fifth inning. A sixth-inning surge by San Jose State, highlighted by RBI groundouts from Rocco Caballero and Drew Giannini, and a single from Jeriah Lewis, brought the Spartans within one. But Cal Poly answered back with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame to seal the victory. Despite tallying nine hits and drawing seven walks, the Spartans stranded 12 runners on base.

San Jose State pitchers combined to allow 13 hits and seven earned runs. Starter Cade Cushing took the loss after allowing four runs—three earned—over four innings. Reliever Luca Staiano provided a bright spot from the bullpen, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings to keep the game within reach late. Ishaan Khambal, Joey Cammarata and Wade Mountz also made appearances in the game.
