Spartans Fall to UNLV in Series Opener Presented by El Camino Health

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Rocco Caballero went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and two RBIs to lead the San José State baseball team (22-24, 9-13 MW) in a 19-5 loss to UNLV (25-20, 10-12 MW) at Excite Ballpark on Friday evening in the first game of a three game series, presented by El Camino Health.

Despite a nine hit effort from the Spartans, the game was largely decided by UNLV’s eight-run second inning, followed by another eight-run outburst in the eighth that put the game firmly out of reach.

JC Osorio-Agard tallied an RBI from a sac-fly in the second. Jake McCoy also added an RBI double in the fifth, while pinch-hitter Neil Jansen delivered a late triple that led to the team's final run. Starting pitcher Win Scott (4-4) took the loss, while Tyson Pereria, Brady Pavlovsky, Timmy Reeve and Joey Cammarata all saw action in relief.
