SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Paige Fry recorded a career-high seven saves to lead the San Jose State (0-1-0) women’s soccer team in a 3-0 loss to No. 16 Santa Clara (1-0-0) in its season opener at Stevens Stadium – Buck Shaw Field.
Fry anchored the defense, including saving a penalty in the 10th minute to keep the match scoreless early. The Spartans found more attacking rhythm in the second half, recording all five of their shots after halftime. Amaya Cabrales-Estrada, Maryam Ladkani, Leslie Jacobo-Duran, Paige Pineda-Aliamus, and Daisy Torres each registered attempts.

- Fry’s penalty save was also the first of her career
- Analise Martins, Sophia Johnson, Kiara Anima, Joliye Brass, Ladkani, Alexis Dueker, Mercedes Cioffi, Cabrales-Estrada, Sophia Sick and Gabrielle Germain all made their collegiate debut
- This was also head coach Sonia Curvelo’s debut at the helm for the Spartans
- Fry, Martins, Germain and Charlotte Memoly played the entire 90 minutes
- The Spartans tallied three shots on goal
