Eget’s Career Outing Falls Short in the Bill Walsh Legacy Game

STANFORD, Calif.Walker Eget completed 36-of-58 passes for a career-high 473 yards and three touchdowns and three Spartan wide receivers, Leland Smith, Danny Scudero and Kyri Shoels, surpassed 100 receiving yards, to lead the San José State football team (1-3, 0-0 MW) in a 30-29 loss to Stanford (2-3, 1-1 ACC) in the Bill Walsh Legacy Game Saturday afternoon from Stanford Stadium.

San José State built a 20–14 halftime advantage, highlighted by Eget’s touchdown strikes to Scudero and Shoels, and extended the lead to 26–14 early in the fourth quarter after Scudero’s second touchdown grab. Kicker Denis Lynch added three field goals, including a 31-yarder that gave SJSU a 29–21 edge with under eight minutes to play. Lynch, though, missed two field goals from 28 and 29 yards out in the contest.

Stanford rallied late. A 36-yard field goal cut the deficit to five, and with less than a minute remaining, the Cardinal took the lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown to secure the win.
