SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State football (1–3, 0–0 Mountain West) hosts New Mexico (3-1, 0-0 Mountain West), presented by El Camino Health, on Friday at 7:00 p.m. on FS1 and KTRB 860 AM.

  • The Spartans look for their fourth straight win over New Mexico and their 11th win over the Lobos in their last 13 games.
  • SJSU comes off a 30-29 loss at Stanford (9/27), where they had 524 total yards of offense. The 524 yards were the most for the Spartans since 531 yards of total offense at New Mexico on 10/14/23.
  • The Spartans averaged 7.3 yards per play at Stanford (9/27) and in their last two games are averaging 7.9 yards per play.
  • Walker Eget completed a career-high 36 passes for a career-high 473 yards and three touchdowns at Stanford (9/27).
  • The 473 passing yards are the most for an FBS quarterback in a game this season and would've been the third most in FBS last season.
  • According to Stats Perform, since the beginning of last season, Eget has thrown for at least 375 yards in four different games. That ties him with Baylor’s Sawyer Robertson for second most by any active FBS QB over the last two seasons (current UVA QB Chandler Morris, five).
  • The 36 completions were the most for a Spartan quarterback since Nov. 29, 2013, against No. 16 Fresno State, when David Fales had 38 completions.
  • According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Eget was the eighth-highest-rated quarterback in week five with a grade of 88.6.
  • Against Stanford (9/27), the Spartans had three receivers with 100 yards or more. Danny Scudero with a career-high 11 receptions for 135 yards and a career-high two touchdowns. Kyri Shoels had a career-high 10 receptions for a career-high 147 yards and Leland Smith had a career-high six receptions for a career-high 101 yards. Tight end Jackson Canaan had 79 yards on five receptions.
  • The last time the Spartans had three receivers over 100 yards was when Chandler Jones (eight receptions for 146 yards and three touchdowns), Tyler Winston (10 receptions for 164 yards and one touchdown) and Kyle Nunn (10 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns) all went over 100 when the Spartans beat No. 16 Fresno State, 62-52, on Nov. 29, 2013.
  • Against Stanford (9/27), the Spartans had their first first-half takeaway of the season when Gafa Faga recovered a fumble forced by Taniela Latu on a sack.
  • Defensive tackle Faga was named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) National Team of the Week (9/22). Faga had five tackles, including 0.5 for loss and one quarterback hurry in the win against Idaho (9/20).
  • Faga is the 18th-ranked defensive tackle in the country with an 84.9 grade according to PFF.
  • Scudero is ranked first in the country, averaging 128.5 receiving yards per game, and fourth in the country, and first in the MW, averaging 8.25 receptions per game.
  • Five of the nine losses in the Ken Niumatalolo era have been by seven points or less, and four of the nine losses by two points or less. 
  •  After four games, the Spartans are second in the MW averaging, 296.8 passing yards per game and 21st in the country.
  • Eget is first in the MW and 11th in the country, averaging 296.8 passing yards per game.
  • Eget is first in the MW and 13th in the country, averaging 23.5 completions per game.
  • The Spartans have recorded a takeaway in 16 of 17 games under Niumatalolo.
  • In 2025, the Spartans' defense is allowing a third-down conversion rate of 28.6% which is good for third in the MW and 21st in the country. No. 6 Texas (9/6) went 2-for-12 on third downs against the Spartans, and Stanford (9/27) went 3-for-13.
