AUSTIN, Texas - Jabari Bates found the endzone and Larry Turner-Gooden and Jalen Apalit-Williams both forced turnovers to lead the San José State football team (0-2, 0-0 MW) in a 38-7 loss to No. 6 Texas (1-1, 0-0 SEC) Saturday afternoon from DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Quarterback Walker Eget led the Spartan offense with 188 passing yards, completing 21 of 42 attempts. Wide receiver Kyri Shoels hauled in eight catches for 73 yards, while Danny Scudero added seven receptions for 66 yards. Bates' four-yard touchdown rush in the second quarter capped off an eight-play, 75-yard drive, bringing the game to 28-7 with 8:19 left in the first half.
Defensively, Taniela Latu posted eight total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, and Vili Taufatofua recorded the Spartans’ only sack of the game. Apalit-Williams provided a highlight with a 41-yard interception return in the second quarter.

- Apalit-Williams grabbed the first Spartan interception of the season and second career interception in the second quarter of the game
- Turner-Gooden’s forced fumble in the fourth quarter was his first of his season and second of his career
- Turner-Gooden’s six tackles also set a new career-high
- Jordan Pollard recovered Turner-Gooden’s forced fumble, his second recovery of his career. Pollard also tallied five tackles, a pass breakup, and a QB hit
- Taufatofua’s sack and forced fumble marked the first of his career. His five tackles were also a career-high
- Tuli Tagovailoa-Amosa set career-highs with three receptions and 29 yards
- Trent Carrizosa placed three of his five punts inside the 20-yard line
- The Spartans have forced a takeaway in 14 of their last 15 games
