SAN JOSE, Calif. – Colby Garland recorded 23 points and seven assists in 40 minutes of action to lead the San José State men’s basketball team (6-19, 1-13 MW) in a 94-79 loss to Grand Canyon (16-9, 9-5 MW) Saturday afternoon from the Provident Credit Union Event Center.

Despite trailing by 10 early in the game, the Spartans took a 10 point lead with four minutes remaining in the first half, but would trail by three at the break, 39-36. Grand Canyon shot 62 percent from the field for the game and 75 percent in the second half to pull away over the final 20 minutes.

The Spartans only played six players in the game as seven players were inactive due to injury. Adrian Myers added 13 points, while Pasha Goodarzi scored 15 and Sadraque NgaNga contributed 14. The Spartans shot 49 percent from the floor and knocked down 10 three-pointers.

The Lopes won the paint battle 54-22 and took a rebounding edge of 36-17. The Spartans held the advantage in turnovers, forcing 13 while only conceding seven.
