SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State baseball team (3-4, 0-0 MW) will play a four-game home and home series against Saint Mary's (4-3, 0-0 WCC) starting on Thursday, Feb. 26. The series will start in Moraga, Calif., at Louis Guisto Field at Br. Ronald Gallagher Stadium on Thursday and Friday, with both games beginning at 2:05 p.m. It will conclude with two home games at Excite Ballpark on Saturday and Sunday, with both games starting at 1:05 p.m.
The first two games can be watched on ESPN+, and the final game on Sunday can be watched on Mountain West Network.
- The Spartans went 0-2 against Saint Mary's last season and have lost four in a row to the Gaels
- This is the first series between the Spartans and the Gaels since 2007
- Alex Fernandes (.423) and Peyton Rowles (.417) are seventh and tenth in the MW in batting average, respectively. Rowles' OBP of .533 is also seventh best in the conference
- Rowles is currently on a five-game hitting streak. Fernades and Jake McCoy have reached base safely in all seven games this season
- Kyle Calzadiaz's ERA of 0.90 is the lowest in the Mountain West. Calzadiaz has only given up one hit in 10 innings pitched. Luka Pintar (2.00 ERA) and EJ McGrew (2.35 ERA) are sixth and tenth, respectively
- Calzadiaz (.036) and Tyler Albanese (.067) are first and second in the Mountain West in opposing batting average
- Fernandes went 5-for-5 in the season opener against LBSU, becoming the first Spartan since Shane Timmons in 2018 to go 5-for-5 in a game. Fernandes is also the only player in the Mountain West to record five hits in a game so far this season
- Three Spartans, Albanese, Fernandes, and Calzadiaz, were named to the preseason All Mountain West Team
