DAVIS, Calif. - Sophia Burdick led the San José State softball team (5-14, 0-0 MW) by going a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate in a 4-0 loss to UC Davis (10-8, 0-0 Big West) in the final day of the Capital Classic at La Rue Field.
The Aggies struck early, scoring a single run in each of the first three innings to build a 3-0 cushion. The Spartans attempted to rally in the late innings but were stifled by the UC Davis pitching
SJSU’s defense remained resilient throughout the contest, limiting the damage by inducing three ground-ball double plays to keep the game within reach. However, the Spartans' bats were held quiet in critical moments, finishing the game without a hit with runners in scoring position
- This is Burdick's third game going perfect at the plate; she also went 2-for-2 against Stanford and Cal earlier this season on Feb. 7
- Taylor Chillingworth, Samantha Blachly and Leata Sherlin each collected a hit
- Norah Coulsell struck out two batters in two innings of work
