SAN JOSE, Calif. - Carly Cummings led the San José State softball team (9-16, 1-1 MW) with a double and the first RBI of the game in the 3-2 loss to UNLV (13-14, 1-1 MW) on Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Softball field.
In the bottom of the first, with a full count, Cummings ripped a double into left-center to score Reina Zermeno from second to put the Spartans on top first.
UNLV went on to respond with two back-to-back runs in the top of the third after a scoreless second inning.
Sophia Burdick, on a full count in the bottom of the fourth, went on to line a single into left that brought in Shay McDowell from second to tie the game at two runs apiece.
The Rebels would then put up the game-winning run in the top of the sixth to secure the game 3-2.
Norah Coulsell started the game in the circle, pitching 5.1 innings, striking out two. Delaney Faus came into the game in the sixth inning following the go-ahead run and pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
