SAN JOSE, Calif.—Three Spartans scored at least two goals, led by Darcy Spark’s five goals, as the No. 20 San José State women’s water polo team closed out Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play Friday with a 14-12 loss to No. 12 Indiana.
The Spartans took a 5-4 lead after the first quarter, never letting the Hoosiers take the lead. Spark and Jennine Osorio scored for SJSU for the early 2-0 lead. Spark scored with 40 seconds remaining to end the quarter at 5-4.
Emma Ruzic scored first for SJSU in the second quarter, and Spark scored the final two goals as the match was tied 8-8 at halftime.
Ruzic scored the first third-quarter goal for a 9-8 lead for the Spartans. Rose Jensen scored her only goal of the match to take a 10-9 lead. Indiana scored with 27 seconds remaining in the quarter to finish the third tied at 10-10.
Mackenzy Clark tied the match at 11-1 with 5:36 left in the fourth quarter, and Osorio scored the final Spartan goal with 4:15 left in the match.
Spartan goalie Tatianna Raffin made five saves in net.
UP NEXT – The Spartans will host one more non-conference match with a change in the original schedule. The team will play Azusa Pacific on Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m., at the SRAC. The contest against Santa Clara, originally scheduled for April 1, has been cancelled.
