RENO, Nev. - Leata Sherlin went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs to lead the San José State softball team (11-21, 3-6 MW) in the 9-3 loss to Nevada (24-12, 6-3 MW) on Sunday afternoon from Christina M. Hixson Softball Park.
The Wolfpack jumped on the board in the bottom of the second inning with a solo shot to right field that put them up 1-0.
In the next top half inning, Taylor Chillingworth walked after battling at the plate in a seven-pitch at-bat. On a 2-2 count, on a pitch up and away, Sherlin launched the ball deep to the opposite side to clear the right field fence.
This put the Spartans up 2-1.
Nevada then responded with a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 8-2. They added one more security run in the sixth inning on a double to score the runner from first.
The Spartans only put one more run on the board in the seventh inning off of an Ahmiya Noriega fly-out that scored Chillingworth from third.
- Sherlin's homerun is her second of the season
- Haley Reeve collected one hit in each game of the series
- Shay McDowell has now reached base safely in four straight games after walking in this game
- Carly Cummings and Noriega have also reached base safely in each game this series
- Delaney Faus, who started in the circle, has now struck out 40 batters this season, with her three in this game
