BERKELEY, Calif.—Three Spartans scored on Friday as the seventh-seeded San José State women's water polo team fell to second-seed Stanford, 16-3, in the opening match of the 2026 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley, Calif.
After being shut out in the first quarter, Rose Jensen got the Spartans on the scoreboard with a 6-on-5 goal with 7:11 left in the second quarter.
Jensen nearly had her second goal of the match in the third quarter as the ball was headed toward the back of the cage and just floated out for no goal.
Jennine Osorio scored the team’s second goal on an overpass from Jensen with 12 seconds left in the third quarter. Darcy Spark stole the ball to start the goal-scoring sequence.
Emma Ruzic scored the team’s third goal of the match as she pushed the ball into the goal after a Mackenzy Clark missed shot and save.
Spark took just two shots on goal but did not score in the match for the first time this season.
Goalie Tatianna Raffin made nine saves for the Spartans.
UP NEXT – The Spartans will face the loser of third-seeded UCLA and sixth-seeded Indiana on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
