SAN FRANCISCO – Luka Pintar, Cade Cushing and Tyler Albanese combined for the shutout and Jake McCoy went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a three-run home run to lead the San José State baseball team (18-24, 5-10 MW) in a 12-0 win over San Francisco (20-22, 11-7 WCC) Tuesday afternoon from Benedetti Diamond.
The Spartans erupted for seven runs across the first two innings. In the opening frame, San José State strung four runs, highlighted by a RBI knock from McCoy, a sac-fly from Brent Cota and a two-run homer from Anthony Scheppler to build a 4–0 lead. They followed it up in the second inning when Alex Fernandes launched a solo home run and Neil Jansen delivered a two-run double, extending the advantage to 7–0.
From there, the Spartans continued to apply pressure. They added two more runs in the fifth inning behind RBI singles from Peyton Rowles and Rohne Klein, before McCoy put the finishing touches on the night with a three-run homer in the seventh.
On the mound, starter Pintar (2-2) set the tone with five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out seven to earn the win. The bullpen duo of Cushing and Albanese combined to close out the shutout, limiting San Francisco to just six hits and striking out four more. The Dons were held to 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and nine men left on base.
