SAN JOSE, Calif. – Brent Cota hit the walk-off RBI double to lead the San José State baseball team (24-27, 11-13 MW) in a 8-7 win and series sweep against Fresno State (14-38-1, 3-20-1 MW) Saturday afternoon from Excite Ballpark in the final game of a three game series.

SJSU finished in a three way tie with Grand Canyon and UNLV for the final spot in the Mountain West Tournament. However, due to head-to-head tiebreakers, the Rebels advanced to the tournament over SJSU.
San Jose State struck first with a four-run fourth inning. JC Osorio-Agard launched a solo homer to left to open the scoring, then Alex Fernandes ripped a two-run triple down the right field line before Peyton Rowles added an RBI single to cap the inning.
Fresno State answered in the seventh with two runs off a two RBI single. However, in the bottom half, after a Rowles leadoff double, he came home off a Bulldog error to get a run back and make it a 5-2 ballgame.
Fresno State appeared to take control in the ninth. The Bulldogs plated five runs in the top of the final inning, highlighted by a two-run homer and a solo blast to grab a 7-5 lead. However, just like yesterday, the Spartans had one final response. Rocco Caballero’s leadoff homer cut the deficit to one, and after Fernandes walked and Jake McCoy drew a free pass, Cota lined the walk-off double to left center to complete the comeback.
From the mound, starter Dylan Smith struck out five across seven innings pitched, allowing just two runs and five hits. Tyler Albanese (2-1) earned the victory in relief for SJSU after recording the final two outs in the top of the ninth.
