SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men’s basketball team has added Maurice Riddick as an assistant coach, announced by Head Coach Tim Miles.
Riddick joins the Spartans after having served as a FIBA Head Coach for three years, being selected to coach at the prestigious Nike Americas Camp. There, he worked alongside top basketball talent, NBA coaches and coaches from all over the world. Coach Mo also spent seven years at AZ Compass Prep, one of the nation’s top five premier basketball programs, helping establish the school as a nationally recognized powerhouse.
Throughout his coaching career, Riddick has played a pivotal role in the development and mentorship of numerous elite athletes, including NBA players TyTy Washington Jr., Jeremiah Fears, Javon Small and Jabari Walker. His commitment to player growth has contributed to the advancement of more than 85 NCAA Division I student-athletes.
Riddick is a native of Suffolk, Virginia, and a distinguished alumnus of Bethune-Cookman University, where he established himself as one of the NCAA accomplished student-athletes through multiple record-breaking performances during his collegiate career, including holding the school record for most threes made in a game at 11. Following graduation, Riddick enjoyed a successful 13-year professional basketball career, competing internationally in both Brazil and Mexico.
Recognized for his expertise in player development, coaching, leadership and mentorship, Riddick looks to make an immediate impact at Spartan men’s basketball. Riddick will join Tim Marrion, Ed Gipson, Jeff Strohm and Jack Townsend on Coach Miles’ coaching staff for the 2026-27 season.
