SAN JOSE, Calif. — Paige Fry led the San José State women's soccer team (0-1-0) with eight saves as they opened the 2026 season Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to Santa Clara (1-0-0) at Spartan Soccer Complex.
Fry finished the match with eight saves, keeping the Spartans within striking distance throughout the contest. San José State recorded three shots, including attempts from Myanne Fernandes, Gabrielle Germain and Analise Martins.
Santa Clara took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, leaving the Spartans trailing by one at halftime despite goalkeeper Paige Fry making three saves in the opening half.
In the 41st minute, Gabrielle Germain received a pass from Maryam Ladkani and from outside the box, Germain took a shot that forced the Broncos keeper to make a save in the top right corner.
Santa Clara secured the second goal of the night in the 74th minute to secure the game 2-0.
- Fry recorded her third-highest game with eight saves
- Abigail Peterman, Aria Burrola, Sophia Daily, Myanne Fernandes, Myriam Lawrence, Nicole Moita de Deus, and Sydney Santos all made their debut
- Fernandes also recorded her first start, the only freshman in the starting 11
- Mercedes Cioffi played the entire 90 minutes of action for the first time in her career
