SAN JOSE, Calif. - Paige Pineda-Aliamus and Nicole Moita de Deus both scored their first goals of the season to lead the San José State women's soccer team (1-4-2) to a 2-0 victory over Sacramento State (4-2-2) on senior night.
Moita de Deus' goal was the first of her collegiate career and she scored first for the Spartans in the 71st minute after receiving a cross from Maryam Ladkani and putting it into the back of the net.
Only seven minutes later in the 78th minute, Alexi Ames crossed the ball into the box, which deflected off the keeper, and Pineda-Aliamus shot the ball through a Hornet defender's legs to make it 2-0.
For the third game this season, Paige Fry recorded eight saves.
Her first save for the Spartans was in the 20th minute, when it deflected off a Spartan defender and made a diving save to her left to prevent it from reaching the back of the net to keep it 0-0.
Another big moment was in the 79th minute after a Hornet set up a cross that led to a one-timer and Fry made another diving effort to her left to nail in the final score of 2-0.
- The last time the Spartans won at home was on Sept. 10, 2023, against Southern Utah in a 4-0 match
- The last time the Spartans won by two-plus goals and their last shutout win was on Sept. 28, 2023, at UNLV in a 3-0 win
- The last time SJSU defeated Sacramento State was on Aug. 21, 2016, in a 1-0 match at home
- The last time the Spartans won on senior night was on Oct. 27, 2022, against Fresno State in a 1-0 match
- The Spartans outshot the Hornets, 18-15
- The last time the Spartans recorded 18 shots was last season against Grand Canyon on Oct. 5
- Nine different Spartans recorded shots on the match with Indigo Sims contributing the most with five, Pineda-Aliamus with three, Joliye Brass, Analise Martins and Ladkani each having two and Amaya Cabrales-Estrada, Abigail Peterman, Charlotte Memoly and Moita de Deus each putting up one
- The Spartans tested the keeper six times, with Pineda-Aliamus testing them twice. Sims, Moita de Deus, Memoly and Peterman each once
- Sims, Ames, Memoly and Mercedes Cioffi were never taken off the pitch
