2013: Played in 55 games and started 53 as a first baseman and designated hitter...a second-team All-WAC selection finishing...seventh among all hitters in the WAC with a .341 average...led the Spartans in batting average (.341), slugging (.441), RBI (40), doubles (15) and total bases (93)...finished the season on a career-long nine game hitting streak that included all three contests in the WAC Tournament...26 RBI during WAC-play ranked him eighth individually in the league...his first career home run was an 11th-inning walk-off shot at home against Nicholls State (3/15)...finished with a team leading 23 multi-hit games with seven as three-hit games...had a career day on March 28 at UTSA going 3-for-5 with six RBI, a run and a double...hit his second homer of the season and career on March 30 at UTSA...hit .407 with runners in scoring position and .400 with bases loaded...the 6-foot-6 first baseman was 5-8 base stealing...made only one error all season for a .998 fielding percentage wit 411 putouts and 20 assists.
2012:Played in 21 games with 14 starts at first base...Had the game-winning RBI on a hit-by-pitch against Santa Clara (March 11) in the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament championship game, as the Spartans scored twice in the ninth inning to win 6-5...Had a season-high five-game hitting streak from March 3-8, going 7-for-16 (.438) with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored...Hit .800 (4-for-5) with a runner on third and less than two outs...Went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs scored after entering as a pinch hitter versus Brown on March 28.
2011: Appeared in 20 games, including four starts as a designated hitter...Had first career hit and first career RBI on March 13 versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a pinch-hit appearance...Went 1-for-3 with two RBIs at New Mexico State on April 16 in his second career start...Hit .300 (3-for-10) with runners in scoring position and .333 with a runner on third base and less than two outs.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2010 graduate of Valley Christian High School in San Jose, Calif....A three-year baseball letterwinner (Coach John Diatte)...Earned first team All-West Catholic Athletic League honors as a senior...Played one year of varsity basketball.
MATT: Majoring in communication studies...is aiming to be a lawyer, doctor or sheriff after finishing school...his three sisters have all played Division I volleyball...lists playing golf, fishing, hunting and winning as his hobbies...his father Mark was a letterwinner on the 1972-74 Spartan baseball teams...Matt is a native of Gilroy, Calif., and was born on October 12, 1991.
