Barry Sacks returned to San Jose State University in February 2016 as the defensive line coach.
He was a Spartan assistant first during the 1998 through 2000 seasons. In each of those three seasons, San Jose State defeated Stanford and upset of the #9-ranked and undefeated TCU, 27-24, on November 4, 2000. The 2000 Spartans finished with a 7-5 win-loss record – San Jose State’s first winning mark since 1992.
Sacks finished his 30th season as an assistant coach in 2015. Except for the 2001 season as the defensive coordinator for the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League, his coaching career centers on coaching defensive linemen at the college level.

Sacks’ college coaching career includes 15 seasons of post-season college and professional championship games or bowl appearances and 20 years of .500 or better overall win-loss records.
As a player, he was a starting outside linebacker during the 1977 through 1979 seasons.
He and his wife, Teresa, are the parents of two children, Alexandra and Philip.
