Melanie Hein served as the learning specialist for the San Jose State University football program in the from 2015 to December 2017.
Hein joined the Spartans after holding various positions of increased responsibility at San Joaquin Valley College in Southern California over a 10-year span. Her first appointment was as an Instructor/Division Manager at the college. She was involved in student retention and success, developing study skills and taught courses in a wide range of subjects. In 2007, she took on the responsibilities of Site Coordinator and was responsible for leading the Student Services division in all phases of campus life. After two years, Hein was promoted to Campus Director in which she managed daily campus operations and was instrumental in San Joaquin Valley College more than doubling its campus population based on projections.
Hein is a 1996 San Jose State graduate who majored in psychology. A member of the Alpha Omicron Pi women's fraternity, she was the 2010 Lucille Curtis English Award winner for her exemplary service to the organization. Her community service projects included "It's a Gas to Go to Class," a program that rewarded high school students with perfect attendance and increased school district funding by nearly $3-million in three years.
She has a stepdaughter, Sarah, a student at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, and a stepson, Shawn, a student at Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif.
