Laura Alexander was promoted to Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Wellness and Leadership Development in June 2022 and was named the SJSU Senior Woman Administrator in November of 2023. Alexander oversees student-athlete support services and heads the Beyond Sparta program.
Previously, Alexander was promoted to head football athletic trainer for San José State in June 2017. She worked as an athletic trainer with the Spartans for seven seasons.
Alexander first came to San Jose State in 2011 as a graduate assistant athletic trainer. She was named an assistant athletic trainer for football in 2013 and served in that capacity until her promotion to head football athletic trainer. Since joining the Spartans, Alexander worked with the women’s swimming, women’s water polo, women’s gymnastics and women’s basketball teams and football. She became head athletic trainer for women’s basketball in 2016 and retains that responsibility for the 2017-18 season.
The 2011 Chapman University graduate majored in athletic training and was a member of the softball team for four seasons. She earned her master’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training from San Jose State in 2013.
She holds a membership with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). Alexander is certified by the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) for athletic trainers and Technica Gavilan PTB for soft tissue manual therapy and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) as a preceptor. She is certified in CPR/AED for professional rescuer and health care provider.
A native of Seattle, Wash., Alexander also has experience as a medical assistant for Dr. Daniel Haber, the department's orthopedic surgeon.
