Oscar Mendoza joined San José State on April 14, 2025, as an assistant coach.
Mendoza has been with head coach Sonia Curvelo since Prarie View and joined SJSU from Sam Houston State where he has been since 2022.
Mendoza spent the previous two seasons prior to Sam Houston State on Curvelo's staff at Prairie View and helped the Panthers win their second SWAC championship in three years during the 2021 fall season. He will work with goalkeepers and field players on technical skills.
Mendoza has more than 20 years coaching experience at the collegiate, international and club levels and spent the previous four years before Prairie View as the head coach of New Mexico Highlands' women's soccer team. While there, he guided 11 players to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference postseason accolades, while six more earned RMAC player of the week awards.
Prior to his time at New Mexico Highlands, Mendoza spent one season as assistant coach at Cleveland State where he helped the Vikings reach the Horizon League tournament for the first time in five seasons.
Mendoza is a 2006 graduate of UTEP with a degree in history and has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State. While at UTEP, he was a starting forward on the men's club team which participated in the NIRSA National Soccer Championship.
