Anh-Dao Nguyen-Church has been serving the SJSU community as both a student athlete and full-time employee since 1983 and graduated from SJSU with a BS in Kinesiology in 1988 and also has a MA in Sports Management from St. Mary's College. Now, Nguyen-Church proudly enters into her next phase as a Spartan joining San Josè State Softball as the Director of Softball Operations. Nguyen-Church will work under Head Coach Tammy Lohmann and staff.
Anh-Dao started out as an SJSU tennis player from 1983-88 where she won a conference title in 1986. Immediately upon graduation, Nguyen-Church became the head coach of Santa Clara Tennis from 1989-92. In 1992, she returned to SJSU to become the head coach of SJSU Women's Tennis. Anh-Dao served as the tennis head coach from 1992-2011. During her tenure, the Spartans earned five singles and two doubles second-team All-WAC awards.
Nguyen-Church oversaw the Spartans’ annual “Day with Billie Jean King & Friends,” a five-time tennis event that now provides scholarship assistance to San Jose State University women’s tennis student-athletes.
From one trailblazer to another, Nguyen-Church is also believed to be the first and the only female Vietnamese head coach at an NCAA Division I college or university.
Following her stint with SJSU Tennis, Anh-Dao was named the Director of Operations for Olympic Sports. In 2012, Nguyen-Church was the Spartan Football administrative coordinator. From 2017-22, she worked in Business Operations for SJSU Athletics.
She is married to a former Spartans Defensive Coordinator Michael Church, they have a 20-year old son together, Kol Michael Nguyen-Church.
