Danya Alsharif has been working as an Academic Support Coordinator and Athletic Academic Coach at SJSU since September 2021. She initially began working as a tutor for student athletes in Fall 2019.
In her role as an academic support coordinator, Alsharif makes sure that student athletes are provided access to tutoring in various subjects including math, writing and science. She coordinates about 15-20 tutors who work both at the YUH and Gadway academic centers. The tutors work to provide students with academic support and study hall services. She collaborates with peer connections on campus to make sure that student athletes are provided with maximum support. She also provides one on one learning support for a certain group of student athletes.
In her role as an athletic academic coach, Alsharif works with student athletes to ensure that they meet academic eligibility requirements, are aware of NCAA policies and procedures and are on track towards graduation. She also works with departments on campus to make sure that students meet major requirements.
Prior to her role as an academic support coordinator and athletic coach, Alsharif worked as a graduate assistant for student athletes, providing them with learning support. She also worked as an intern at West Valley College academically assisting students facing learning disabilities. She also interned at the Alum Rock Union School District working with elementary and middle school students. In addition, she interned at Thomas Russell Middle School, working with students who need one on one counseling.
Danya Alsharif earned a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and a minor in Child and Adolescent Development from San José State University. In addition, she earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Guidance from San José State University.
