Mayda Garcia joined the San José State volleyball program in the summer of 2026, joining the bench of her former collegiate head coach, Todd Kress.
Garcia spent the previous three seasons (2023, 24, 25) as an assistant coach in the UTRGV program. She assisted the team in winning the Southland Conference 2025 regular season championship and earning a berth to the 2024 Women’s National Invitational Championship (NIVC). Garcia was responsible for multiple tasks, including operations, recruiting and planning practices.
Garcia played four seasons at Fairfield (2016-19) for head coach Todd Kress. During her career, she saw time at middle blocker, defensive specialist, right side and outside hitter, the position she was recruited to play. She ended her four-year stint with 801 kills, 623 digs, 106 blocks and 32 service aces.
A two-time second team All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honoree, Garcia helped her Fairfield teams win three MAAC Championships and advance to the NCAA Tournament in each of those three seasons. Those teams faced three top-15 teams in the tournament – No. 15 Michigan State in 2016, No. 2 Texas in 2017 and No. 7 Minnesota in 2019.
A 2020 graduate of Fairfield, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. She is currently finishing her master’s degree in kinesiology from McDaniel College, where she was a graduate assistant from 2021-22.
