Therren Wilburn is a San Diego native and has spent his career serving student-athletes. Wilburn, returns to San José State where he earned a B.S. in Kinesiology with a business minor. In addition, he earned his Masters Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sports Management from San José State.
Prior to returning to San José State, Wilburn has spent the last nine years in high school athletics serving in various athletic administration roles at Palo Alto High School, Cathedral Catholic High School (San Diego), and most recently as Director of Athletics at Saint Francis High School (Mountain View).
Using his understanding of today’s student-athletes, Wilburn uses transformational relationship building to inspire student-athletes to achieve their academic potential. Through his work with the First Chance U. Foundation, Wilburn has led student-athlete-focused workshops focusing on financial literacy, social media training, NIL, interview preparation, and selecting a college major. In his role at San Jose Staté, he will be responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing, and assessing academic support and other retention services and programs for student-athletes in accordance with San José State policies, NCAA, and athletic conference rules and regulations.
Wilburn is an active member of the Minorities Opportunity Association (MOAA), a current member of the San José State Kinesiology Advisory Board, and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.
