Jones & Freeman Honored By College Football Performance Awards

Davidson, N.C.-----San Jose State University wide receiver Chandler Jones and tight end Billy Freeman were honored by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) program for their individual performances at the September 21 game at the University of Minnesota.

Jones was named the national Wide Receiver Performer of the Week. The senior from Los Angeles tied the school records for touchdown receptions in a game and career touchdown catches. Jones caught seven passes for single-game career bests of 197 yards and three touchdowns.

Freeman received honorable mention Tight end Performer of the Week honors. The freshman from Mesa, Ariz., caught two passes for 81 yards in his third game as a Spartan.

The CFPA program selects its awards winners based upon objective scientific rankings to which a player contributes to the overall effectiveness of his team.

Jones and Freeman are the first two Spartans to be honored by the CFPA this season.
