Swimming Travels To Southern California To Open Second Half Of The Season

San Jose, Calif. --- The San José State University women's swimming team kicks off their spring 2014 season as they travel to Southern California to compete in four meets starting Friday, January 3 through Sunday, January 5.

On Friday, the Spartans (1-2) are in Bakersfield, Calif. as they compete against CSU Bakersfield (4-1). The meet begins at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Hillman Aquatics Center.

San José State finished their fall 2013 season, taking second place in the Arena Invitational on November 21 through November 23. Seniors Ashlyn Acosta and Riley Spitser each broke school records at the three day meet. Acosta broke her own school record, after placing first in the 100 fly in a time of 53.61. Spitser placed second in 500 free with a time of 4:50.25, topping Amy Friedhoff'stime of 4:50.80.

The Spartans then travel to San Diego on Saturday to compete against Air Force, Boise State and the University of San Diego in the USD Relay Invitational. To end the week, San José State takes on UC San Diego (3-2) and Incarnate Word (0-1) at 11:00 a.m. (PT).
