April 22, 2014

San Jose, Calif. - In their final tune-up before the Mountain West Championships in mid-May, the San José State women's track and field team competes in the Brutus Hamilton Open and Bulldog Invitational this weekend.

On Friday, the distance runners compete at the Brutus Hamilton Open in Edwards Stadium on the University of California campus in Berkeley, Calif. Rebecca Garcia and Lalida Maokhamphiou will run the 3000-Meter Steeplechase, which is scheduled to start at approximately 3:45 p.m. Aylin Mejia will compete in the 5000 Meters, which is scheduled to begin at approximately 4:25 p.m.

"The Brutus Hamilton will be a better field for the Steeplechase and 5000 for Aylin, Rebecca and Lalida," assistant coach Brad Wick said. "The goal is to take off another good chuck of time to put them in an even better position heading into the conference championship meet."

Results for the Brutus Hamilton Open will be available at www.recordtiming.com

On Saturday, the entire squad will be at Buchanan High School's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif. for Fresno State's 2014 Bulldog Invitational.

The day kicks off at 1:30 p.m. for the Spartans with Breanna Garcia, Allison Kimura and Nina Sassano in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase and continues with a rolling schedule.

Melanie Fujiwara, who has the team's second quickest 1500 Meters this season, competes with Rebecca Garcia, Marissa Buckley and Lalida Maokhamphiou at that distance.

Raven Adams, Madison Fowler, Joetta Hall, Madiah Raza and Jennifer Topps compete in the 100-Meter Dash with Adams, Fowler and Raza also running the 200 Meters.

Diana Orozco makes her San José State outdoor track debut in the 800 Meters. Karina Nunes, who has run the 1500 and 5000, and Jenay Jauregui, who has competed at 1500, close the day for the Spartans in the 3000 Meters. Both the 800 and 3000 are events that San José State has not competed in yet this year.

There are no live on-line results for Bulldog Invitational.
