Davidson, N.C.----- San Jose State University's Austin Lopez is one of 40 players named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Watch List for placekickers.
The junior-to-be from Euless, Texas (Trinity HS) heads into the season converting 88.6 percent of his field goals (39-of-44) in his first two years with the Spartans. He is 13-of-15 from 40 or more yards and is one of two placekickers in school history to kick two field goals of 50 or more yards - a 51-yarder at Hawaii and a 50-yard boot at Nevada in 2013.
Lopez is the fourth Spartan to receive 2014 preseason recognition from the College Football Performance Awards group.
Now in its seventh year, the College Football Performance Awards program prides itself on using the most scientifically rigorous measurements to select its weekly and yearly award winners. Performance is measured to the extent a player increases the overall effectiveness of his team. The CFPA ranks player and team success across all three phases of the game -- offense, defense, and special teams.
In 2013, San Jose State players were recognized 19 times during the season by the College Football Performance Awards program. At the beginning of July, sophomores Christian Tago, Tyler Winston and Billy Freeman were named to the CFPA Watch Lists for linebackers, wide receivers and tight ends, respectively.
