Joe Gray Named Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Week

Oct. 20, 2014

Colorado Springs, Colo.----- After leading the San Jose State University football team to a 27-20 overtime victory at the University of Wyoming, quarterback Joe Gray is the Mountain West Conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

Gray completed 33-of-45 passes without an interception for 322 yards and two touchdowns. In only his third start of his college career, the junior from Los Angeles also scored on an 18-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run that gave the Spartans (3-3, 2-1 Mountain West) a 17-10 lead.

The Spartans' quarterback twice managed the team's two-minute offense leading to a 13-play, 90-yard touchdown drive at the end of the first half and a 50-yard Austin Lopez field goal with 0:42 left in regulation play to create an overtime opportunity.

In the overtime, Gray tossed his second touchdown pass of the game - a 4-yard play to wide receiver Tyler Winston that proved to be the game winner.

Gray is the second San Jose State player to be named a Mountain West Football Player of the Week this season. Following the UNLV win on October 4, Austin Lopez was named the Special teams Player of the Week for converting 4-of-5 field goals in a 33-10 victory.
