SAN JOSE, Calif. -- San José State University's 62nd-ranked women's tennis team was seeded third entering the 2015 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship in Albuquerque, N.M., and will open play Friday at 3:00 p.m. MT.

The Spartans (13-6, 3-1 MW) received a first round bye and will take on the winner of No. 6 seed Utah State and No. 11 seed UNLV, who play in the tournament's opening round Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. MT.

Sybille Gauvain, Malin Cubukcu and Abbie Pahz will be playing in their first Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship.

"We have three freshmen and two sophomores in the lineup, so that's a very young team," said Spartans' head coach Sylvain Malroux. "But that's why we've been working all year long. We've been playing a lot of good teams and we're exactly where we wanted to be. I think they're ready.

"It's a little bit of an unknown situation because we don't know how they're going to react to playing in the tournament for the first time, but I feel very comfortable with it. I think playing in Reno last weekend got us used to the elevation a little bit. We're heading to Albuquerque today and we like the draw and we like our chances."

San José State enters the Mountain West Championship buoyed by its singles play during its five-match win streak. Julianna Bacelar has won her last five matches and Gauvain, Marie Klocker, Gaelle Rey and Pahz have won their last four.

With three wins in the tournament, Bacelar would tie former Spartan Chau Truong with 132 career wins -- the most in program history.

All the action from McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium in Albuquerque will be streamed live by the Mountain West Network, powered by Campus Insiders.
